It’s 1994 in County Donegal, Ireland, and everyone is talking about Colette Crowley: the writer, the bohemian, the woman who left her family to be with a married man in Dublin.
Returning to pick up the pieces of her old life, Colette finds that nothing – and everything – has changed. When the man to whom she is still married denies her access to their children, Colette enlists the help of Izzy, a housewife and mother of two, and the women forge a friendship that will send them on a spiralling journey – one towards a path of self-discovery, and the other towards tragedy.

Living Life the Irish way
Listening to the audible of this book was to engulf myself in the lives of ordinary Irish folk all with their own story to tell. I loved every minute of this tale, which was fast moving and so wanting each character to become satisfied and happy with their lives.A huge tangle of emotions and sometime later felt happy with the outcome. I can highly recommend this book,I will certainly look out for Alan Murrin again.

Beautifully read and a moving story
This is set at a time before Ireland had divorce . Something I had no idea occurred . The control and fear this caused women and families is difficult to imagine . This book shows the impact of this control the imbalance in marriages and the lives women were captured in . Freedom is a thread throughout women seeking freedom and how to grasp it and the perils it brought . A Really excellent book and the narration was perfect . I shall certainly look for more by this author .

Outstanding read!
I loved this book! It moved along unassumingly and every so often you're hit by an event... A couple of the men on the book were monstrous, this just added to the whole experience. I will definitely be reading more by this author.

Moving
A moving story about high sensitivity, mistakes we all make and consequences which sometimes might be to big to bear

Stunning
The fortitude of women, so beautifully heartbreakingly depicted in this riveting story. The female characters get under your skin and speak to all women in their familiarity and complexity.

A beautiful, powerful novel
This is one of the best books I’ve read in years. Powerful throughout, moving and full of Irish humanity. I loved the characters, and the author has written them so well. It is honestly (in my opinion) quite hard to write this well in the third person, this novel is the work of a genius really. I look forward to reading more from this author. Wonderfully narrated too.
