About this listen
Austen comes to England knowing that as an American he'll stick out at his new school. But when an errant owl lands him at Hogwarts, he's in for more than he expected.
And as if it’s not hard enough being the only American at Hogwarts, Austen’s sorted into the most despised of all the houses. Then bumbling around the dungeon while trying to find his common room, he unwittingly helps the monster from the Chamber of Serpents. Will he discover the secret of the chamber before he becomes another victim of He-who-must-not-be-named?

absolutely brilliant!
This book is ab-so-lute-ly fantastic! And the (at times somewhat wild) narration just adds to the enjoyment! Despite the fact that the narrator's accents can be somewhat crazy, I think he is generally great, in that his intonation and feeling are wonderful, and his voice is very soothing too.
The story is SO good and so witty. I absolutely adore the HP books and have listened to them zillions of times. Despite being 49yo, I find them immensely calming and I think they're phenomenally good, and Stephen Fry's narration is exceptional.
When this book popped up on my Audible, I only semi noticed it to start with. Then I read the reviews and I'm so glad that listeners had taken the time to review it because it gave me the spur to listen... and it was complete entertainment, from start to finish (also I slowed it down a bit, so got it to last for an extra hour ;-) ).
If you are a Harry Potter fan, I highly recommend listening to this book. It celebrates the HP books beautifully and is incredibly funny too. I congratulate MJ Ware on writing something so enjoyable and also so inoffensive as regards the 'originals'. It's a real treat and I've already listened to it several times and will continue to do so. If one is feeling stressed in life, it's the perfect antidote!

An alternative perspective on chamber of secret
Having just finished another read through the HP story i needed a quick fix to ease my back to normality and this popped up.
It was so surprisingly good i was hooked and finished in two sittings. The story line fits in perfectly with the events of the chamber of secrets and beautifully fills some of the latter’s plot holes.
The narration, while not in the league of stephen fry, is so zany that it just adds to the magic and humour.
I laughed a lot, definitely worth a read/listen if you’re into this world. I have my fingers crossed for more in the future.

Really stupid
I really enjoyed how everyone was supposed to have an English accent and some of the name changes (copyright purposes of course) but the chapter numbers were mixed up

The gap between the end of a chapter and the start of a chapter is quite large.
I didn’t like the amount of swear words but everything else was so good I have read Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Actually really good!
I bought this as a chance, thinking of probably returning it. But in reality, i think it's as good (in some ways better) than actual chamber of secrets! the only problems is that most of the characters don't have a British accent, but it doesn't change the story unless you're looking for a sprinkly lovely dovely smugly story and your a perfect human ( on earth classed as an alien 👽 )

Don't keep it a secret
I enjoyed this quirky alternative to the Harry Potter series. This is based on the second book in the famous series and although the author has changed the names (some with highly amusing results) you still feel like you are in Hogwarts. I like that it is an American student sorted in to Slytherin (sliperin) and although Harry is in the book he is just a side character and instead Hermione Danger gets her chance to shine and help Austen. Although it is never going to compete with its counter part it is still a fun alternative and explains why things might have played out how they did. I got this for my niece who is the big Potter fan, after she had listened to all the books and while I am not sure she enjoyed it, I certainly found it entertaining.
When Austen's father moves him to England so he can start a new job, he never imaged chasing an owl out of his room would change his life. He has received a letter from Hogwarts. Knowing nothing about magic he will have to learn fast as not only will be Have to learn to fly, do spells but also survive the dungeon. As a sliperin who's dorm is in the dungeons it is not a good time for the chamber of serpents to be open. Can he make friends and survive year two of Hogwarts?
I liked the narrator. Especially when he did the voice for Snape, it sounded just like the late Alan Rickman.
